What We Do

A cancer diagnosis can put fear of the hearts of the patient and their loved ones, but it doesn’t have to.

Fifteen years ago, Shellie Colvard faced just that diagnosis. After being diagnosed with Cancer, Shellie and her husband Paul were uncertain about what lied ahead, but rather than give into fear of the unknown, they channel that energy in focusing on solutions and dreaming of recovery. Shellie and Paul knew that one of the biggest burdens she would face during her recovery is traveling for cancer care. There were many costs to consider such as gas, food costs, and places to stay for treatment. They met many families a long the way who were impacted in similar ways by this diagnosis. Shellie and Paul vowed to find a way to ease the burden of the diagnosis in others.

As Shellie made her recovery she and Paul used the knowledge of experience and the connections they had made a long the way to start Surviving Hearts, a group dedicated to aid in the comfort of cancer care in the form of travel and expenses. Surviving Hearts has since helped many patients with easing the extra cost of cancer treatment such as providing gas cards for travel, providing food gift cards, and also by funding a large part of the Respite Center in Fruitland Idaho, which is a place for cancer patients to stay in comfort while they receive treatment.

Surviving Hearts contributed to the opening of the Respite House and fully stocked the center with all the comforts of home such as kitchen utensils, coffee makers, sheets, towels, pictures, etc. Surviving hearts also provides gift baskets and comfort items to be placed in the rooms at the respite center of patients receiving care.

Surviving Hearts also holds fund raising events to raise money for their cause. Surviving Hearts is about to hold their 8th Annual Fund Raising Event.

This is a fantastic time and a great opportunity to help a great cause. Festivities will be held in the idyllic setting of Sunnyside Farms, located at Sunnyside Road in Weiser Idaho. The magic begins with a social hour at 4p.m. followed by a mouthwatering tri-tip buffet. The evening will be filled with activities, including live music by the band, Hecktor Pecktor. Dont miss it!

100% of the donations received are used for the care of recipients. If you are interested in donating or volunteering please reach out to Shellie Colvard: 208-781-1778
